“Divorce Cases On The Rise In Our Christian Homes”

11 05 2011

Greetings I bring to you in the name of Our Lord Jesus Christ Our Redeemer! Dear friends, as we take a look at the above topic entitled “Divorce cases on the rise in our Christian Homes.” Let us take a look at what the word of God has to say in this matter. Is divorce allowed in Christianity?

Dear friends, as we take a look at the above topic again, is divorce allowed in our Christian homes? Let us see what the word of God has to say? As we take a look at the book of Malachi in the old Testament 2:16 it is written “I hate divorce, says the Lord God of Israel.” Yes, my friends. It is written clearly that God ‘hates’ divorce. So if we have done so, meaning that we are going against the word of God. In today’s world we see that divorce cases are on the high rise in our Christian homes. What are the reasons that leads to the increase of divorce cases in our Christian homes? You will be shocked my friends if you see that reasons given are all reasons that are not called for. It is just an excuse.

Dear friends, before we go into the reasons, let us see if divorce is permitted in our Christian home. Yes, it is but let us take a look on what grounds does the word of God allows divorce to take place in a Christian relationship. In the gospel of St Mark 10:2 some Pharisees wanted to test Jesus by asking “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?” Jesus replied, “What did Moses command you?” and the Pharisees replied, “Moses permitted a man to write a certificate of divorce and send her away.” Jesus replied back to them saying in, “It was because that your hearts were hard that Moses wrote you this law,” Jesus replied. But at the beginning of creation God made them male and female. For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife and the two will become one flesh. So they are no longer two, but one. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate. Jesus said, “Anyone who divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery against her. And if the wife divorces her husband and marries another man, she commits adultery.” Wow! What an explanation from the word of God?

Dear friends as we take a look at 1 Corinthians 7:10-11 it is a command from God: A wife must not separate from her husband. But if she does, she must remain unmarried or else be reconciled to her husband. And her husband must not divorce his wife. In the gospel of St Luke 16:18 it is written, “Anyone who divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery, and the man who marries a divorced woman commits adultery.” Friends, divorce leads into adultery. It is not only the husband and wife who gets divorce and commits adultery but the person that got married to these divorcees are also guilty of adultery. Look at the mess that is done. At times we do not realize it my friends. Our actions can cause hurt and pain to those around us especially our children.

Dearly beloved friends, those of you who are divorced and those who are seeking divorce from your spouse, on what basis are you requesting for a divorce? Remember either spouse can only divorce if there is marital unfaithfulness between the both of you! So on what grounds have you spouses seek divorce? Many of them seek divorce due to these reasons given: finance, debt, strained sexual relationship, stress and depression, nagging spouse, cannot compromise, addiction, risk taking, accusations, fault finding, comparison on spouse and many more petty reasons. Friends, the word of God says that only under marital unfaithfulness can either spouse seek divorce. Even under this circumstances with careful godly counselling most marriages can be saved.

Dear friends, at times before taking drastic actions especially when it comes to marriage, please think twice before making and taking any drastic actions. Either spouses, if you are seeking divorce because of a new person that comes between your relationship then forget about it. Before seeking for a divorce for certain uncalled reasons, think first about your wife or your husband. Why in the first place that you both got married? Is it not because of the love and affection that you both had on one another? What about the marriage vows that you both took before God? Why now a divorce? Remember that Satan is all out to destroy our families. Do not give Satan a foothold in your relationship. Friends, please do think carefully before seeking for a divorce. I lost my husband two years ago and I know how difficult is it to be without the person I love who shared 23 years of his life with me. We had our ups and downs but we never gave up. We went through the financial storms in our lives but we went through it with prayers. We had arguements and we both knew how to get back the same day.Value your better half  that is with you today. When he or she is gone it is not worth regretting, my friends. My secret of 23 years of a blessed marriage is this three words, “I LOVE YOU.” Will write on it more on “how to save a marriage” in my future postings. Remember, ‘Marriage Is Not At All A Bed Of Roses.” Marriage is made in HEAVEN, Divorce is made in HELL. Friends you can either choose to make your marriage a heaven or a hell. Have a Blessed Day.

God Bless.
