“Suffering For Being A Christian”

15 05 2011

Greetings I bring to you my dear friends in the name of Our Lord Jesus Christ Our Redeemer. Dear friends, as I take you to another article of mine for the day, let us take a look at the above topic entitled “Suffering For Being A Christian.” Yes, my friends, if you are a Christian you have to bear all the suffering for being a child of God. Let us take a look at what the word of God has to say to us regarding the sufferings of being a Christian.

Dear friends, if you are a Christian, bear in mind that you will go through a lot of suffering and persecution. The word of God says that as Christians we will go through sufferings. What are we going to do? Are we going to renounce our religion or are we going to hold on to it and be proud to be called a Christian? Many of us out there who are believers have renounced our religion for many reasons. Jesus Christ died and suffered for us on the cross so that our sins will be forgiven and that we could be reconciled to God by the shedding of the blood of Jesus Christ on the cross 2000 years ago in Calvary.

Dear friends, the word of God says in 1 Peter 4:12 – 16 as it is written,” Do not be surprised at the painful trial you are suffering, as though something strange was happening to you. But rejoice that you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed. If you are insulted because of the name of Christ, you are blessed, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you. If you suffer, it should not be as a murderer or thief or any other kind of criminal, or even as a meddler. However if you suffer as a Christian, do not be ashamed, but praise God that you bear that name.”

Dear friends, the word of God is also written in 1 Peter 3:8,”We should live in harmony with one another; be sympathetic, love as brothers, be compassionate and humble. Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult, but with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing.” Even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed. Do not fear what they fear, do not be frightened. But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Friends, as Christians we all have to go through sufferings and persecutions. Currently looking at all the current religious issues that are happening and all the false accusations against Christianity, Where do we stand as Christians?

Dearly beloved friends, are we angry that we want to take revenge on those who are persecuting the Christians? Are we feeling insulted? Friends, we as believers have to undergo all these sufferings and more. We are to have the Christlike character within us if we are called Christians. And what is the Christlike character that we should possess? Take a look at 1 Peter 2:23 – 24 as it is written, “When they hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate; when he suffered, he made no threats. Instead, he entrusted himself to him who judges justly.” Friends, when they threw insults at our Lord Jesus Christ that is what he did. Jesus did not REACT at all. He was humble till the point of death. Jesus even told His Father to forgive those who have tortured him and humiliated him. That is the character that we should all possess if we bear the name of Christ. People will hate us because of the name JESUS CHRIST that we carry!

Dear friends, Jesus gave himself to all of us. In this time, where Christians are being falsely accused, are we bold enough to carry the image of Christ within us or are we going to abandon Him before people. There are some who will remove the crucifix from their cars and homes and also godly Christian wordings from their car afraid that unwanted things will happen. Mind you, my friends, believers are doing that. Is our faith being shaken today? We live for Christ and we die for Christ. If we can’t take all these sufferings and persecutions that what are we preaching in our churches, today? It has no meaning at all and we see leaders doing it too! Don’t we believe that God will save us?

Dear friends, the things that are happening to us Christians today, should be a reminder to all of us that we are to bring the word of God to our children. There will come a time when all our Bibles will be taken away from us. Did not the word of God in the book of Deuteronomy says that the word of God must be written in our hearts and minds? It is a warning to us to get ourselves prepared with the word of God. Remember if we do not know the word of God, Satan will steal away the Truth from us and from our children. Friends, be proud that you bear the name of Christ within you. Have a Blessed Week ahead.

God Bless.
