“The Cost Of Being A True Disciple Of Jesus Christ”

14 06 2011

Greetings I bring to you my friends in the name of Our Lord Jesus Christ Our Redeemer. Dear friends, as we take a look at the above topic entitled “The cost of being a true disciple of Jesus Christ” let us see what the word of God has to reveal to us regarding the above mentioned topic. Stay on and read the rest of the article friends, and stay blessed always.

Dear friends, looking at the above topic let us really be serious about knowing the cost of being a true disciple of Our Lord Jesus Christ. Many of us as believers wants to be disciples of Jesus Christ and that is really good. But before becoming a true disciple of Jesus Christ we are to be aware that there is a cost to it. Nothing comes in free. Whatever we buy there is also a sum that we need to pay, right? It is the same for each and everyone of us who have decided to become disciples for Christ that we too need to pay a cost if we truly have decided to become the Lord’s disciples.

Dear friends, being a disciple for Christ is not a joke or something that we take for granted. It is a commitment that we make with God that we want to be His disciples. It has to come from our heart and not from our flesh. We need to become a servant of God. Being a servant, we first have to have this thing that we call self denial. We need to deny ourselves and really die to our flesh. Dying to flesh is not something that is easy to do. We have to say that we are really “nothing” and we want God to use us as his vessel in His hand to bring forth His word to all mankind. To bring His love to all Human race. We are to love all mankind regardless of who they are and what is their background with an unconditional love as how our Lord Jesus Christ loved us all. Jesus denied himself totally at Calvary where he was crucified for the sins of all mankind. Jesus died and carried all our sins on his shoulder. The weight of the world was on His shoulders. Jesus went through condemnation and was humilated  for our sake. He was rebuked and tortured for our sake. Jesus totally denied himself until the point of death. That is what we call as self denial.

Dear friends, as we see in  Matthew 16:24: – “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.” Today, are we willing to deny ourselves and take up our cross and follow our Lord to be his disciples? Friends, doing God’s will must be our first priority. It is the Lord’s will to be done first and not our will. Friends as we see in the gospel of  Luke 14:33: – “In the same way, any of you who does not give up everything he has, cannot be my disciple.” The word of God states clearly that we are to give up everything and that is the cost we have to pay to be disciples of God. Following Jesus must be our first priority, above our family, career, comfort, even our own life. We must be willing to forsake anything that can hinder our walk with Christ. Nothing is to come in our way if we truly want to serve God. Are we willing to pay the cost of being a true disciple for Christ. That is why I said that it has to be your hearts desire and not the desire of your flesh to be a disciple of Christ. That is why many have abandon the Ministry of God along the way.

Dear friends, we also have to abide in His word and in the Lord’s teaching. The word of the Lord says in John 8:31: – “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples.” There are many who are giving the wrong teaching to the people. In the gospel of John 15:7: – “If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given unto you.” Friends we are to have a regular quiet time daily alone with God  to abide in His words. We are to know God personally through His word.  We as His disciples are to have Supreme love for our Lord Jesus Christ. We are to love him more than anyone else in our life. The Love for Christ should be the compelling force for us to follow him. 2 Cor 5:14: – “For Christ’s love compels us.”

Dearly beloved friends, we are to love others too regardless of who they are. In the gospel of John 13:34-35: – “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”  In Romans 12:9-10: – “Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves.” This is all the cost we have to pay if we want to be true disciples of Jesus Christ. Friends, lastly and not the least there must be Fruitfulness.  As we see what is written in the word of God in Romans 12:9-10: – “Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves.”  In Gal 5:22: – “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.”  Bearing fruits is a sign of growth and maturity.

Dearly beloved friends, that is the cost that we have to pay being a disciple for our Lord Jesus. Are we willing to pay the price for that? Jesus did pay the price for us all. Why can’t we do it in return for our Lord? Have a Blessed day and Stay Blessed.

God Bless.
