helping handShalom and blessed Lent greetings I bring to all of you my beloved ones far and near and across the globe in Christ Jesus. May God grant you His grace through this Lent journey that you are on today my beloved ones and His blessings be upon you and your kin. Stay blessed and be under the perfect will of God at all times. Below is a small article about fasting during the Lent Season.

Greetings in the name of Our Lord Jesus Christ. As the Lent season begins, there are many of us who will want to observe this Lent season by fasting. Some will fast just by having a vegetable diet for the 40 days. Some will go on just liquid fast and some will go on a word fast. Some will only have one meal. Some will observe the Lent as a time for a diet program.  But exactly what does the written word of God tells us about true fasting that is found in the book of the prophet Isaiah chapter 58:4-7 as it is written, “Yet on the day of fasting, you do as you please and exploit all your workers.Your fasting ends in quarreling and strife and in striking each other with wicked fists. You cannot fast as you do today and expect your voice to be heard on high.” Very true indeed my beloved ones. Remember that the Lent season is a time that we really need to humble ourselves before God. We need to endure and persevere at times the trials that we are going through. At times the pressure around us will make us to lose control of ourselves. We may just end up quarreling with one another, gossiping behind people and striking each other with abusive words and wicked fists. Yes, all these do happen during the time of the Lent season where trials and temptations will come to us from all directions. We all fast with a wrong attitude of heart at times. We force ourselves to fast because others are fasting so we fast too. But what kind of a fast is God looking in each one of us?

Many of my believing friends have asked me if fasted during the Lent season and my answer is a definite “No” and I can see that look on their face. You are a believer and you do not fast? Hmmmm! What can I say? Its okay, just have to forgive them.To me, we all need to have the right attitude towards fasting. Some really do fast but how many of us have gone on a fast and broke the fast that we are observing during the Lent season? We break our fast because we cannot control our anger and our tongue. We can’t take the pressure that is around us. So again what kind of a fast is God looking in each one of us?

My beloved ones, I always like to support my answers with the written word of God in Isaiah 58:6-7 as it is written, Is not this kind of fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed  free and break every yoke? Is it not to share your food with the hungry and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter, when you see the naked, to clothe him and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood?” How many of us are fasting today as God wants us to?  My beloved ones, during this time of Lent, we will all undergo a lot of trials and temptations coming our way. We all really need to have the right attitude of heart before God. We need to have a good relationship with God daily and that is 365 days and not only on certain days that we need to observe. We need to live a life that is worthy before God. We need to humble ourselves and be ready to forgive one another. We can’t have grudge and revenge in our hearts during this Lent season. We just have to forgive those who have knowingly or unknowingly hurt us. It is never easy but that is what God wants and is expecting from each one of us.May God grants us the strength to journey on this Lent Season and to have a right attitude of heart before God. Have a blessed Lent Season my beloved ones and God Bless you and your entire household.
